Curly Hair Party Style Ideas

It's the end of the year, and you know what that means...you may be attending some festive parties.  In this blog I spent time on four, how-to  hairstyles, through fun photos frames.  My spotlight is on super curly hair. Curly hair is gorgeous as is.  I would like to present this to you in an easy way, with basics you may know that have just a new twist to them. Enjoy.

The Nature of Curly Hair   If you or someone you know has tightly curly hair, you know there is a special way to care for it.  It starts with water. Get it all the way wet. You may want to shampoo less frequently than conditioning it.  Always use special products for curly hair that will moisturize your curls. Use a large wide comb to detangle with conditioner, while still wet. After you rinse and comb, towel dry. It is recommended to use a leave in conditioner and other special products to calm frizzier dry ends. Start to twist small sections together, so that the curls can form together for a solid curl. You may blowdry after you've placed your products in. This will add a little volume at the root for a fuller effect. Now, your hair is set.

This is Ilana, who loves her red curly hair. I have prepped her with the wash, products and blowdry. This is a simple "trick" to add volume and a little shape, while leaving it down. In my hand, are small butterfly clips. You can get them at the drugstore. I'm just lifting the top hairs and placing them underneath, where you can't see them.

See what a difference it makes? It also helps to keep the hair out of her face. All of us with long hair can appreciate that.

Okay, this is officially style #1. This is a beautiful quick updo that will look elaborately done. With her hair parted in the middle for symmetry, I started on one side and grabbed a section of hair. I then start to twist it and direct it back behind the head. Curly hair loves twists because it likes to stay together in a cluster.

I start to work from side to side and I meet the twists in the middle of the head and hold it in place with a secure bobby pin. As you can see, it's starting to take shape and you can leave it here for a half Updo. Which is also very pretty.

I'm am proceeding to take twists from each side and meet them in the middle, until I have no more hair left.

Finally, this is the end result.  This style would make anyone in the room eye's wander with interest on your hair.

This next style, starts off as one dutch braid down the center of the head.  A dutch braid is a french braid but turned inside out, so it is not flat to the head.

Use an elastic band to tie the end of the braid.  Next, starting at the top, pull from each side of the braid to stretch the loop of center. Use a pin to keep it in place.  Continue down the braid, gently pulling it away to create a new shape. Last, turn the ends of the braid into the hairline and pin up to lift the hairstyle.

Finished Look  Elegant and off her face. You can show off your accessories now.

Style #3   I love braids and they work well with curls, again because you are working with bunches of hairs.  With this one, you leave the front sides left out.  This is anything in front of the ears. This is used for many diffent styles to add softness  and interest around the face. The pictures above are working side to side. Next, do one standard braid and tie the ends with a band.  Next, take a piece out from the braid and loosely start to wrap it around the existing braid. Use a hairpin to keep it in place. Continue to take a few random pieces out and wrap them over the braid.  This will give it a double texture of a wrapped braid.

You can then start to take small sections from the front and wrap them around the existing braid. Do this on both sides.

This is what it starts to look like as it's done. A very textured look.  Also romantic pushed off to the side.

Finished Look  You can add a fancy adornment to it.

For the last style, I wanted it to be fun. I took 3 baby blue extension pieces, washed them beforehand and twisted them on 3 pencils. I let them dry/set on the pencils overnight to get a tight curly look from them. On one side, I lifted the top hair and laid the track on the hairline. I pinned it in place and set the second one next to it. The third one I placed on the other side.  A fun flair to add pizazz to her night. The color will help her to stand out and be the life of the party.

Finished Look  I Love this look!  Her hair is down, showing off those sexy curls and the blue adds a whole other color dimension.  She's definitely ready for the parties. All the looks are so different too. It just depends on what you are wearing.

That completes this blog entry. Hope you found this to be helpful and entertaining.  Please leave me any questions and comments at the bottom.

Hobbie of Mine.

Part of what I love to do , is production work in creating a photo shoot.   There is a lot of thought that goes into a look.  Finding a beautiful model is one of the first thing that inspires me. Here, Alesha has this amazing long, vibrant red hair. I knew I wanted to use my texturizing iron that would press a fine crimp to her hair. This act alone fluffs up the hair and feels quite wonderfully thicker. I went for a modern rendition of an edwardian style, up-do.  In the end, it reminded me of a kabuki, geisha-style.  I really like that hair took a turn into an artful personal expression.  That is the beauty of what our hands can create.

Wardrobe, an important factor to frame my work and my model.  I decided on this gorgeous vintage dress, lined with lace and satin.  The color is one of my favorites, solid, navy blue, which stood strong with her red hair.  I love to mix up it up, so I added a trendy, feather necklace.  Everything fit Alesha and her style to the tee.

Look close and you can see the fine texture in her hair.

The make up I chose was a soft rainbow look across the eyes.  It opened up her eyes and it was more playful than what she usually wears day to day.  My goal is to compliment her features and the style and at the same time try some new  techniques to broaden my skills.  Her lips are simply sexy with a pinkish red.

Setting is also really important. For a great shot, it needs to be clean, well lighted and a subliminal point of interest.  I love the texture added here that seems adds another layer of novelty.

With her hair worn up, her  neck and back are exposed and  gives  her an air of sophistication.  Simply marvelous.

Men's Haircuts

Men are important to us and  we want to make sure they look and feel great.  I wanted to dedicate my first post for them because when it comes to beauty, men should not be left out.  This is Rand and Rand has been coming to see me for haircuts since 2007. What I like about Rand, he's a very stylish, casual guy. He has a natural flair with his charismatic smile.  His hair  has a life of its own because it has so much natural body and wave to it. At one time, he was wearing it longer and I would cut it so it has a rocker edge.  These days, the best look for him is a razor cut. I can chop his waves with the razor leaving the rest with a textured finish.
